Oh, the fun of Homecoming

I have to post this picture, as it makes me laugh every time I see it. My lil sister in KD was very excited to hear our news about Peanut. So much that she took a picture with just my exaggerated belly and has titled it "Oh No...There's a Bun in the Oven."

Katie always has the best attitude and is so fun to be around! Love you Lil!

Checking in with the Doc

I was hoping after a big 4 day weekend of eating yummy starchy foods - mainly made by my grandmother - that I would gain some much needed baby weight. Now that I’ve also had my sweet tooth back, I was sure this wouldn’t be a problem – it never has been before. But oh how morning sickness that lingers can change everything.
As my doctor reported yesterday afternoon, "You've lost a few pounds." Bummer! So, now I’m on a mission, to gain at least 5 pounds by December 31. I’m hoping the morning sickness will subside soon, and the weight won’t keep coming off. We want to keep the little peanut as happy and healthy as possible. It’s funny how my view of the scale has changed the last 3 months. I now applaud ½ pound increases in numbers and get really upset when I lose 3 pounds in a week. I’ve also been advised that some women would want to ring my neck after hearing my report of weight loss and struggling to gain weight with a baby on board. To those that want to ring my neck: I’m sorry, I’m trying!!
On a better note, I heard the heartbeat again yesterday – a strong 162. The doctor reports everything looks good and everyone is healthy. I scheduled our 20 week ultrasound for January 15 at 3:00. 6 weeks I’m sure will come VERY soon!

We've Got Crabs! And Starfish, And Seahorses....

Pat and I recently ventured to Babies R Us for our first trip when not buying a baby gift, oh what an experience. So many things! It’s quite a mind stimulating experience. I’ll definitely need to call in some help from The Lodmell’s, or as Pat and I call them, The Local Experts. Just walking through and looking at all the bottles was overwhelming. We’ll take help/experience where we can get it. We did stumble across a few items we couldn’t go without purchasing. Bedding! I had promised myself we’d wait until we knew if we were having a boy or a girl before we ventured into getting a nursery ready, but we just couldn’t resist! I think the little crab did us in. We’re very excited about sharing our family’s love of the ocean (mainly the Caribbean) with Peanut. Maybe we’ll put Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney on permanent replay on the iPod this summer. The picture below has several items that won't make it into our nursery -- slightly overkill, but you get the idea.

Getting Started

While I feel I have nothing important to say to take up world wide web space, my friends feel differently. Pat and I recently found out we are going to be parents! While it doesn't seem so "recent" to me, it was almost six weeks ago that we found out the news and I called to make the first of many doctor appointments. Our first prenatal appointment was scheduled for Thursday October 30, and Pat took off work to be there with me. When we arrived, ready with tons of questions and loads of anticipation we were told my doctor had left to deliver a baby, and would need to reschedule for next week. Our consolation prize? A follow up ultrasound to one done at the beginning of October. They needed to hear a strong heartbeat, and an ultrasound was the surest bet. Pat and I got to hear the little peanut's heartbeat - a strong 180 beats per minute. We were also told that our little peanut was measuring a week ahead in size. Satisfied, and rescheduled for my first prenatal appointment Pat and I headed to WKU's Homecoming Saturday. It didn't take long for news to spread, as Pat could not simply keep a secret for two more weeks. By Friday anyone in Bowling Green and near the Phi Delta Theta house had heard our news, and Saturday word began to travel on Chestnut Street from the Kappa Delta house. I head to the doctor tomorrow, November 4, hopefully not to be rescheduled again -- with decision '08 and babies on my mind.
So here we are, 2 more weeks away from the pivotal 12 week mark. Say a little prayer or cross your fingers, which ever you prefer, as we begin this adventure that's sure to be loads of fun and supply us with plenty of sleepless nights. **Pictured below: First baby gift from my Dad and Jen -- purchased in NYC at Wicked. There are SO many reasons why Pat and I both LOVE this gift.**
