Stairs...

Count them, 14 steps.
These were the steps when our house was being built. Now they are covered in carpet and there is a hand rail on the left... but the 14 steps still remain. And yesterday, at 10 months and 25 days Jacob climbed up the entire flight. All 14 stairs. Never missed a beat. Right hand up, left knee up, left hand up, right knee up, push up on both feet and start again... one right after the other. He paused once to look back and make sure I was behind him... but he made a mad dash to the top. No quicker than I could get both feet planted on a step had he moved up to then next. When he got to the top he sat down, looked back down at his accomplishment, smiled and clapped.

Upon hearing the news that Jacob was walking Alice told me on Thursday,
"He's going to be advanced"
Well, I'm anxious to understand the definition of advanced that he will fall into... how about he had never climbed steps before yesterday... and then all of a sudden when the gate opened he climbed up 14. Hum, how about he's advanced enough to keep Mom, Dad and Nannie on their toes. All kids fall into that definition, right? Where do kids learn this stuff? How do the just KNOW how to do it? It's crazy. Gates will remain firmly locked both at the top and bottom of the stairs now, not just the top... Jacob has found the stairs!
